Spring Break...Conjures up images of white sandy beaches, clear blue water, and a lot of sun. What doesn't usually come to mind is an excessively LONG road trip to reach those white sandy beaches. This year...well...that's what was in store for us. Six plane tickets just doesn't fit into our monthly budget if you know what I mean. So off we went, starting our road trip on Friday after school...destination for the 1st night-Klamath Falls, OR. All together it was an uneventful trip with a few "are we almost there?" questions which drove me BANANAS and that was only after 3 hours of driving.

One of my only requirements was that we take our time and stop whenever we need to. We were NOT going to live by some time frame. If we were going to drive it was going to be relaxing (but is that seriously possible when your final destination is 20 something hours away?) But, we took our time and made our first scenic stop to view Mt. Shasta. I was elated! It was gorgeous-although freezing outside-but none-the-less we were in no hurry right? But then guess what??! As we get back on the road we get stuck behind these 4 semi's for at least 30 minutes. I mean the speed limit was already 55 but did we need to go any slower than that. It was wearing on my patience and we were only an hour and a half into our second day of travel. I really need to work on my patience and I had to keep reminding myself that we were in no hurry...

And can I just add that that bed was the most comfortable bed I have EVER slept in. John didn't even snore or maybe my ear plugs were working really well.

I was so excited when we finally got on the freeway thinking it would change in the state of California to 75mph, but do you think it did? NO!!! It was only 70mph! I mean I guess that is 5 mph over what Oregon's is but psychologically 75mph just register's better in my brain and it actually means that I can drive at least 80mph Right?! Guess I should stop BOO HOOing about it. Let me tell you though, You gotta love Utah, Idaho, and Colorado for their speed limits.
Anyway...We finally arrived in SanFrancisco around 2:00, found that our accomodations were, to put it mildly, a little bit iffy. So we thought since we were saving dough on not flying, that we could splurge a little on a hotel. So after calling around for 45 minutes, we ended up getting the greatest deal at the Courtyard Marriot in downtown SF. It was awesome. The kids were so excited, but I think that was because it had a pool.

hilarious post, and I'm glad you splurged on a hotel!
Oh, the road trips. How fun.
Looks like Part 1 was a great way to start off your trip. I have a hard time slowing down while traveling too, and just trying to enjoy the stops. I'm always in a hurry to get to my destination.
Cajsa we are in the same boat. We are considering a road trip this summer since the alternative is plane tickets x 8. We have a family reunion we want to go to. We keep going back and forth....do we want to drive that long??? or just not go. Flying is out of the question!!
Did you notice that Marriott puts the strip of "decorative bed spread" on the beds instead of nasty full bedspreads? I love that about the Marriott. My brother-n-law is in hotel management. He works for the Hyatt. He let us know once that no hotels wash their bedspreads. Isn't that so disgusting? The Marriott has a great idea.
