I am so proud of myself! For about a year or so now I have been checking out Ana White's Blog, Knock-Off-Wood and coveting about every single thing on that there blog of hers. I had visions of myself building to my hearts content. There was one problem though...I didn't have all the tools I wanted to cut everything myself. Really I think it was just an excuse. You see, I'm sort of a perfectionist when it comes to "crafting" things. I was worried that it wouldn't turn out as beautiful as I had envisioned. But, I was so tired of the clutter in the corner of our family room on a temporary desk, that I finally broke down and went to Home Depot and shopped for my wood. John happened to be out of town that week too so it was perfect timing. I laid out my cutting plans on graph paper first so I could show the guy at HD exactly how I wanted my plywood cut. He was awesome and did exactly what I wanted. Thank you HD man! There were a couple of boards that couldn't get cut at HD because the panel saw wouldnot cut that small so I called up a brother from my old ward and he gladly cut it for me. Thank you thank you! So there I was with cut boards, plans, screws, powerdrill, and tape measure and I plunged ahead. I decided to go ahead and do the assembly work in my kitchen...it was nice and warm inside...not so much outside in my garage.
I had to document my event so Wyatt became my photographer.
Here's the first base cabinet finished.
Here's the raw unfinished desk. Saturday ended up being gorgeous outside so I took the cabinets outside and finished the edging and the top of the corner desk.
Little man thought I needed to take a break so he started crying and whining for me. Excuse all the dirty laundry in the background...some things just have to take a backseat. Oh yeah, and that blue (it's actually supposed to be antique silver) behind me...painted it the night before I started the desk project. The wall was red and dark. Couldn't take it anymore. Need I remind you John was out of town for a few days??
I let the girls help me out...Tealani's first time with the nail gun. So proud of my girl!
Monday while Kekoa was napping I finished my project. It was amazing and fun...Well, the staining painting and polyurethaning wasn't fun, but building it was.
And here she is in my little corner of the family room. Look how neat and tidy it all looks. I was so glad to get that Computer in the base cabinet and off the top of the desk. Now to find baskets or build the drawers that she has in the plans...Thank you Ana White!!
Well, I must go now, baby is having a fit upstairs. Thus ends this blog post.

Oh my goodness! That is AWESOME! I'm so impressed. I wish I knew how to build stuff like that!
Nice job!!!! Want to make me a few things? Bunkbeds for one? I am getting rid of the daybed so that we can fit the crib in Kalena's room. Dressers? and the list could go on and on.
Very cool cajsa, I'm impressed. 5 kids, husband gone and you paint your kitchen and MAKE a DESK! insane in the membrane. Who cares how crappy your slug garden is with tricks like that! :)
That looks great. I'm impressed. We've made a few plans from her site.
woot woot! this is great....nothing better than accomplishing something that can really be useful in the end. accomplishing the laundry just can't measure up to accomplishing something like this!! :)
I am SO impressed! That is seriously awesome to pull that off....and by yourself.
